What are the benefits of Invisalign?

Better hygiene: Being invisible aligners, they can be removed easily, and this gives the Invisalign treatment a significant benefit over metal braces.  There is no issue with food getting stuck between metal wires, with the removable aligners from Invisalign, they can be removed, cleaned, and at the same time you can clean and floss your teeth without any obstruction.  If you are unable to clean your teeth well throughout the treatment period, which could be 16 months or more, then in this period you may have issues with cavities and gum disease, thus the invisible aligners have the bonus of allowing the patient have better hygiene.

They are near Invisible: Invisalign aligners are made of a clear see-through plastic material which when compared to metal braces, they are much less noticeable and nearly invisible.  The great part of this is for the most part, most people will not notice that you are wearing invisalign.  Metal braces are noticeable from the first sight and far less aesthetic than invisalign.

More Comfortable: In addition to being invisible, Invisalign aligners are much more comfortable to wear when compared to metal braces. With metal braces, which consist of brackets and wires, your gums and tissue in your mouth may get hurt or are sensitive to where contact is made with the metal wires.  With invisalign, the plastic is smooth, so there is less friction or irritation. Invisalign aligners are smooth and your lips and gums tolerate them quickly.

Effective: Invisalign is extremely effective when treating a variety of dental issues, including overcrowding, gaps between teeth, malocclusion and bite problems. Studies comparing metal braces and invisalign show that Invisalign is just as effective as traditional metal braces for various cases.

Treatment length: In general, the length of the treatment time for orthodontic treatment will depend on the severity of the issues that the patient has, however, that being said,  Invisalign, due to its customised approach, produces a treatment length that is normally equal or less than the treatment length of braces.

Quick Checkups: The regular appointments during treatment with your Invisalign Specialist are usually much easier and less painful than those of metal braces as there are no wires or elastics to remove, just a checkup and to be given the next set of aligners.

Gentle: The treatment plan which is designed for Invisalign is computer generated and specifically planned to ensure that there are no rapid movements nor shock to the bone, teeth and gums, it involves a gradual gentle pressure to move the teeth into place.

Boost to confidence: The benefit applies for both metal braces and Invisalign treatment.  Orthodontic treatment aims to improve ones smile, and with this, it subsequently improves ones confidence.  With a perfect smile, patients are not ashamed to laugh and smile, and will feel better about themselves.  This boost of confidence will effect your day to day life, but also your work, and how people treat you. Your smile is the first thing that people notice about you, make sure it is a good one with orthodontic treatment.

Does Invisalign have any disadvantages?

As already mentioned, Invisalign has more benefits than disadvantages, but there are also some elements to consider.

Discipline: To ensure that Invisalign works properly, you need to ensure that you wear it for the designed hours per day, if you do not do this it will delay the treatment plan and effect the final results.  The aligners need to be removed when you are eating or drinking, but the rest of the time, they need to be worn, that is twenty to twenty two hours a day.

Speech: When you start wearing the aligners, you will notices that your speech will become affected by the treatment until you get used to them, this is just temporary usually.

Complex Issues: For complex malocclusion or other issues, Invisalign may not be the right treatment, and more complex treatment might be required. This is the reason you should visit an orthodontic specialist to find out what is the best treatment for you, to ensure the end result is not only straight teeth, but an aligned bite, healthy teeth and gums also.

Just finished my one year invisalign journey with Micheal and his team. After he spent a whole hour for free with me explaining invisalign and was really reasonably priced, I knew I would go with him. He is SO kind and gentle, and was really helpful and attentive during my treatment, adjusting things when needed. He also recommended his colleague Dr Russell for composite bonding to finish off my teeth and I'm delighted I did, I'm so happy, I have the smile I've wanted my whole life now. I've recommended Michael to my friends with small kids and they all love him too. 100% recommend this dental practice. Thank you Michael!!!

How Effective Is Invisalign Compared To Other Orthodontic Treatments?

How effective is Invisalign compared to other orthodontic treatments?

Research shows that Invisalign is an effective orthodontic treatment option for various issues and malocclusion. Invisalign aligners can help treat many issues, similar to traditional braces. However, with both Invisalign and metal braces, the effectiveness of the treatment depends on each patient.

Comparing Invisalign to other orthotic treatments, Invisalign has many advantages, the obvious one being that they are nearly invisible, offer better hygiene and will cause less irritation or discomfort due to the smooth plastic material.

In the past, metal braces were the primary treatment for complex orthodontic cases. Still, as Invisalign has improved, researched, and developed its products, it can now treat many orthodontic issues.

At Cork City Dentist, our team of experts can help you determine if Invisalign is the right treatment option for you and provide you with personalised care every step of the way. Please contact us today to schedule a consultation and learn about Invisalign and other orthodontic treatment options.
